03:22 pm - Baba Yaga and Her Chicken Shacks

(where did you think chicken shacks come from?)

(she raises them in her garden)

(they frolic around the blue roses and valerian, and eat healthy amounts of bug legs and children's fingers)

(in the morning she puts on that old dusty coat and big black boots, and stomps into the chilly yard where they greet her, chirping, and chomping the tiny sharp teeth in their keyholes.)

(the world needs more baba yaga.)
I am very happy to tell you that: This piece was made for the STUFF THIS show at the RIVET GALLERY in COLUMBUS OHIO DECEMBER 5th - 30th Opening reception is Saturday, December 5 from 7-10pm
Rivet 1200 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43201

11:21 am - Also. This entry is going to be completely rambling and babbling, but it's Thanksgiving morning and i'm not cooking today and i've got some coffee and so there.
I've been thinking a lot about these guys lately:

Because of questions that i've gotten or things i'm working on recently. I keep turning around in my seat at my desk and glancing back at these two poor bastards.
( let me tell you about them. )

in the shop
i like these guys.
lots of work. good work though. i've re-assessed and re-thought a lot of things in the past couple days. i've got a few fantastic orders to finish up. i've got some Hello Critters about to be done. i've got a big stack of gifts getting ready to head all across the globe: washington, switzerland, vietnam, spain, ohio, chicago. there will be no holiday-shopping-keeping-up-with-Etsy-craze for me, i'll make some stock for my shop and when it's gone, that's it. i would much rather focus on what i am really good at and put on this earth for: creating things to make joe smile, cooking in a warm home, petting my dog, painting pictures, being with people. most importantly at the moment though, i've got a few turkeys to cook, soup to make, and a long, long conversation to have with Baba Yaga.

the catfoxcreature is complete... but i'm re-evaluating my photography set-up. i think my photos could be better. so this afternoon i'm off in search of a tripod (pot of coffee every morning = shaky hands = blurry photos) and some sort of light source that doesn't suck. the lighting in my studio is god-awful, but it's mostly to do with cheap lamps and a house facing the wrong direction. SO. fun day. then i'm going to re-shoot everything in my shop, update the listings, and not sleep until the end of january.
give me ibsen, and some sausage, i am ready.
in other news, my poodlebreath showed up today.
i got the big blue sinking fairy pendant, and i love it. it's keeping my little alleluja piece company. poodlebreath (get 'em while they're still around) alleluja

08:23 pm - sauce? today i bit it and submitted to saucydwellings, and they accepted! o_O THANKS, SAUCY!
i'm throwing it here too, because i put some elbow grease into it and im happy with it.
submitted to the sauce-masters: ----------------------------------------------------------- Alright ladies and gentleman. I'm not sure if this is saucy, but this room is just not going to ever get any better than this. And, this is the last chance to document this space, because after seven years it's finally time to move on. I start packing next week, we're moving. This has been the space and place where I have been figuring it out, making it work, developing a style, and finally, creating a successful art business and supporting myself. The room and I have grown around and into each other over the past 7 years, everything is in constant motion. The walls are perforated with a thousand push-pins. I never replaced that horrid pink carpeting, I never took down the wallpaper border that I hate more than anything - of course now that we have tenants moving in soon, we're replacing everything. Go fig. But for today, it's still my room and I'd like to invite you in for a beer.

picture HEAVY. ( ode to a room )

04:30 pm - it's miller time

I am thrilled to announce that this loving bastard is on his way to New York City, where he, and a gaggle of other creatures, will be on display at the Luv-able Hug-able show at Gallery Hanahou next month.

This show will be featuring 'medium and mini' plush art from many of the heavy-hitters in the plush-art world. I'm super happy that my little guys are off to join in the fun.
Here is a crappy photo of everything I am sending to Gallery Hanahou for display (and for sale) at the show:

And, just for good measure, here is another group shot, showing everything that I have made since Monday night. Two days of no sleep has made me absolutely *bonkers*, but I think the output was worth it:

I think a couple bottles of wine and a little Charlie Day are highly in order.
( All Luv-able Hug-able Show Info, Dates, Etc under here. And I'll repost it closer to the date )

sorry, that was nerdy.
hey look it's the last catcow!

09:22 am - up dippity date i've been having fun.
new free-range studio monster

this guy, he's got a lot to say

quiet and rabbit-like

centerpiece / sitting

jewelry holder / hanging

i've started calling this guy max, you can imagine why

he's my favorite. he's got little spots and perfect little ears. i love him.

a new treehouse
there will be a few more treehouses coming, i'm pretty fond of this one
little things that add hours to the work but really make me happy

speaking of little details, the backs of all the new mini-wall monsters
are finished with awesome recycled Waverly upholstery fabric.
all of this stuff is going to be in The Shop
Tonight ETA: WELL seeing as how i just threw my back out, and am now stuck at home for a few hours until the pain meds and ice pack sink in, I'm adding this stuff to the shop now. I am old people :(
If i ever get home from working the desk job - it's going to be a long day.
...speaking of which. i chatted with my boss on wednesday, and we nailed down what my actual date of leaving will be. my last day, for real official, of working for someone other than myself, is January 22, 2010. Seeing that written on the calendar, it's amazing. anyone who's been reading my blabber since 2005 knows how frustrated i've been about art/deskjob/life. and to be honest, leaving wqa is going to be hard for me. but - to be free and support myself off of my art, finally? that's everything.
